Here are some tidbits about a few of the MAGA morons and dirtbags making news this week.
Peter Navarro (whose picture has long appeared in dictionaries next to the entry for “moron”) has warned Canada–Canada!–against interfering with the upcoming U.S. elections. Navarro seems particularly concerned about Canadian interference with the elections in Michigan and Maine, where Republicans are in tight raises for the U.S. Senate. True, Canadians have been running ads critical of Trump’s tariffs and have retaliated against those tariffs with targeted, and clever, tariffs of their own, specifically directed against goods from states with competitive races this fall. But it’s really stretching things to call any of this “election interference.” If this is what passes for election interference in MAGA circles, the pretexts for MAGA efforts to invalidate the election results are even broader than we feared.
Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) accused former Special Counsel, Jack Smith, of perjury at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today (September 29, 2026). Schmitt claimed that Smith had perjured himself in denying that he (Smith) had been in Atlanta (apparently for the purpose of colluding with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis). As evidence for his perjury claim, Schmitt flashed a poster board allegedly containing text messages from Smith’s team indicating, according to Schmitt, that Smith was going to attend an Atlanta Hawks basketball game in early February 2024, around the time that news emerged about Willis’s romantic relationship with the special prosecutor she had hired for the state election interference case against Trump. (When I say the poster board was “flashed,” I do mean it. Check out around minute 8:15 of the CBS video.) Schmitt initially refused to give Smith sufficient time to review the poster board, and only did so under pressure from Senator Klobuchar and other Democrats. Only then did it become clear that Schmitt had confused the Atlantic Hawks NBA men’s basketball team with the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team. As Smith related, he attended a University of Maryland/Iowa Hawkeyes game in Maryland, which was held on the same day (February 3, 2024) as the Atlanta Hawks game. (Since you’re dying to know, the Hawkeyes beat the Maryland Terrapins 93-85, and Caitlin Clark scored 38 points. On the same day, the Atlanta Hawks beat the the Golden State Warriors 141-134 in overtime.)
Like so many people, Jack Smith apparently had caught Caitlin Clark fever during her historic 2024 season. And like so many Trump-butt-kissing GOP hacks, Senator Schmitt apparently has caught a severe case of the stupids. Oh wait. I’m told Schmitt was born that way.
Pete Hegseth is continuing his efforts to reduce the readiness and capabilities of the U.S. military. Fox News (via Yahoo News) is reporting that Hegseth is planning to double his previously-announced reductions in positions reserved for generals and admirals. Initially, Drunkin’ Frat Boy Hegseth had announced 10 percent cuts in such positions. Now, Testosterone-Obsessed Pete plans a 20 percent reduction. It’s true that sometimes you can have too many generals and not enough soldiers, just as you can have too many cooks in the kitchen. But given Pete’s past performances, which have featured such highlights as the depletion of key weaponry in the Iran war and the refusal to promote numerous female and non-white military leaders, there’s no reason to trust Pete’s judgment on this score. And who will be surprised if these reductions disproportionately affect women and non-white senior officers?
Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal lawyer and present personal lawyer/Attorney General, has defended Trump’s attempt to ban CNN, MS Now, and Politico, invoking national security grounds. Blanche claims that the outlets’ refusal to ape Administration talking points–which Blanche characterizes as “one-sided reporting”–is a “national security problem.” As a wide range of commentators have noted, virtually every wacky and deplorable thing that Trump has done lately is being justified on “national security” grounds, so why should Blanche’s defense of this Trump action be any different? Blanche also denied that the ban is a ban, disputing that these media outlets are being “denied access.” This is just gas-lighting. Wouldn’t it be nice if disbarment proceedings were in Todd’s future?
