There are lots of reasons to conclude that Trump is increasingly frustrated by his inability to solve problems of his own creation. You know, problems like the war with Iran, the disastrous makeover of the Reflecting Pool, and the Epstein files. The multiple frustrations seem to be making him even more unhinged than usual.
So we had Trump demanding that the reflecting pool “vandals” be punished, even though there aren’t any such people. He also has lashed out at the sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying their seemingly endless deployment hasn’t been “nearly long enough.” And in the last few days alone we have Trump’s over-the-top berating of CNN Senior White House Correspondent Kristen Holmes for questioning him about his decision to scale back joint military exercises with US ally, South Korea; the bizarre military exercise decision itself, which was the result, in part or entirely, of South Korea’s refusal to join Trump’s war-of-choice with Iran; and his threat to “bomb the shit” out of an ostensible ally, Oman, again stemming from his frustration with an Iran situation that he created and that he lacks the mental capacity to understand, much less solve.
We’ve been on this ride for a while, and we can’t be too surprised where it is going. It was readily predictable from the get-go that an elderly man who started off with very limited cognitive abilities, and who has been slipping rapidly for a while, will act unreasonably when the world does not bend to his will. The all-too predictable bad consequences are compounded when the elderly man is vain, paranoid, unintelligent, demented, and psychopathic–don’t forget smelly–and that pathetic old man thinks that the solution to every problem is to find someone (other than himself) to blame. And the situation gets more dangerous still when the sad, addled, elderly man has not been on speaking terms with reality in quite a while, but wields the tremendous power of the Presidency, and has, at his disposal, a legion of cognitively-limited, morally-compromised, subservient, hate-filled lackeys who are only too happy to destroy norms and institutions, and to use the power of the Presidency to wreak vengeance on the President’s and/or their own enemies. When all of that comes together . . . well, you get the Trump Administration.
So now, in a comparatively minor but absurd and funny extension of the President’s rule-by-blame-and-persecution approach to governance, Trump is claiming that vandals–them again!–damaged the grass on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial. That was the site of the stage during the Salute to America, 250th Anniversary, Great American State Fair, whatever-the-hell-that-was, on the National Mall during the 2026 July 4th festivities.
So in this case, we all know who the vandals were and at whose direction they operated. Jeanine Pirro could go a long way to resurrecting her standing–if not with the President, at least with the public–if she indicted the miscreant. (I would not be in favor indicting the people who built the stage or the few people–I mean, huge crowds–who actually attended the “event.” They had no idea that they were committing “vandalism.”)
Yes, the Supreme Court would almost certainly let him off the hook, but the perp walk from the White House would be delicious. Go get him, Jeanine.
